Maou ni Natta node, Dungeon Tsukutte Jingai Musume to Honobono suru (魔王になったので、ダンジョン造って人外娘とほのぼのする, Now I'm a Demon Lord! Happily Ever After with Monster Girls in My Dungeon) is a Japanese light novel series written by Ryuyu. Originally published via the novel posting website Shōsetsuka ni Narō in October 2016, the series was later acquired by Kadokawa Books, which began publishing the series in print with illustrations by Daburyu. A manga adaptation, illustrated by Note Tono, began serialization on the ComicWalker-based web manga platform Dragon Age in May 2023.

Synopsis[]

Yuki finds himself reincarnated as a demon lord in another world, and he's been put in charge of a dungeon to boot! Once Yuki accepts that his fate hinges on the dungeon's survival in a world where powerful monsters roam free and danger lurks at every corner, he begins gathering allies and bolstering his defenses. Within a few days, he takes on a legendary dragon, an adorable pet slime, and a vampire girl, but despite all his precautions, life as a demon lord in a dungeon constantly under threat...is surprisingly mellow?

Of course, with such a colorful cast of characters (and possibly more on their way), Yuki's bound to wind up in some trouble. Will he be able to pull off a reckless rescue mission? And how will he and his monster girls survive an invasion by a hostile human kingdom?!

Join him as he juggles daily life, responsibilities as a freshly minted demon lord, and his growing family of monster girls and pets!

Character[]

Before being reborn as Yuki, he was a normal, average person who lived a normal, meaningless life. He lived a self-centered, lonely life as he just went through the motions from day to day until a stupid, unjustified accident took his life. After being reborn as an archdemon, Yuki went to explore outside his dungeon and encountered the Supreme Dragon, Lefisios. Before he took a breath to the face, he bribed her with chocolate and turned her into his ally.

Yuki summoned a slime and named it Shii and rescued a vampire girl named Iluna. When Iluna didn't come back from playing outside the cave, Yuki and Lefisios (Lefi) raided the human city, Alfyro. They saved Iluna and tens of non-humans. Yuki allowed Leila and Lew to stay at his dungeon at their request. Yuki repelled a group of soldiers from the Kingdom of Alisia and created the Luan Fionell Castle. Yuki reprimanded the hero, Nell, and saved Alfyro from several dangerous elements. He prevented the prince's coup d'etat and revealed a scheme of the fiends.

Yuki created a sword he named Zaien (En) and that later took the form of a little girl and defeated Dragon Lord Girodio. He married the Lefi and summons some more monsters before going to the Demon World with Leila and En to try and kill the fiends who tried to use Lefi. He participated in a tournament and saved Nell but failed to kill his enemy.

Yuki accompanied Nell to Alshir to deal with the aftermath of their engagement and they saved Sengillia along the way. Yuki worked with others to crush Argus's conspiracy. Yuki was acknowledged by Spirit Lord Yggdrasil and learned to interact with spirits. Yuki joined Nell and the Faldien Order on a mission to subjugate a demon lord.

Yuki and Lefi visited the Dragon Village and was recognized as the 132nd Dragon Lord. Yuki participated in the war against Rogardian empire and Fiends alliance alongside Therianthropes, Demons, Dwarves, Elves, Humans alliance with his pets Fluffrir, Seimi, Byakku, Orochi, Yata and won, resulting in him becoming Rogarde's emperor.

Personality

Yuki is a selfish self-centered man who enjoys being a villain and takes care of those who have meaning to him. Although he won't seek out people to help, he'll help those suffering from injustice he meets by coincidence. That said, he becomes a vengeful force of nature to those who harm him, his family, or his peaceful way of life.
Yuki isn't a violent individual and prefers to talk things out but he's not against using violence to quell violence.
Though he would adamantly insist otherwise, he is this. He acts heroically, purely for his own sake, not because he's expecting a reward, although he certainly wouldn't turn a reward down, and does act heroically because he enjoys doing so, or benefits from it.
He hates "heroes", especially those who boast of their selflessness, and pointedly does not want to be one.
When a hodge-podge army of mercenaries and various "noble" houses intrudes in his territory, seeking to "avenge their country's honor" as a direct result of him hunting down a slaver cartel, to rescue Iluna, while said the artel was operating (illegally) in their country, he goes to what he thinks is the top commander and warns him. The said commander warned his superiors but was ignored. The warned commander wisely withdrew his squad. That squad survived. The rest had a Cruel and Unusual Death. While it has yet to crop up much, seeing how remote his dungeon is, he does not like hurting children, and if he finds those who do, he tends to be quiet and upset.
Despite being an Ideal Hero, he's not going to intervene in affairs that don't directly impact him.
He lives by his own rules, on his own schedule, and only does things, or listens to people, that he wants to.

As a result of being a demon lord, he has a red eye that allows him to check the Dungeon "menu" at any time. He can also see the flow of magic, letting him predict an enemy's spells before they even finish casting. Yuki became a dungeon master and connected from his dungeon core as his second heart. The dungeon core provides access to a menu that defies the laws of the world.

Dungeon Functions: Being connected to his dungeon's core grants access functions such as monster summoning and the ability to purchase items.
Luck: one of his weakest points with being only 70 when reincarnated as Arc Demon which was lower than his first summoned slime and pet Shii.
Analyze: this is one of the first skills he had and proves to be very useful in all situations.
Mana Eye: As a result of being a demon, lord, he has a red eye that allows him to check the Dungeon "menu" at any time.
Language Translation: can understand, Talk and read any language but will not share context while reading.
Item Box: can store and take out anything or so except living things into a parallel space.
Indomitable: when hp drops below 20%, only if the holder has a willingness to fight, greatly reduces damage taken from enemies and multiplies all stats by 1.5.
King's intimidation: Releases "Intimidation" against all enemies within a certain area around the user, slowing down the target's movement, the effect on the target varies according to the status difference between the user and the enemy.

A discussed, Invoked, and Lamp shaded. When he touches the dungeon core, it scans his mind and tools a "menu" interface styled off the RPG games he's familiar with. He's then forced to see the world that way, especially when he uses the newly acquired "analysis" skill.

A Dungeon Core is a seemingly living being with a glowing iridescence. Monsters seek out dungeon cores too as they are rich in mana, so the cores summon Demon Lord to defend itself. In exchange for this protection, The dungeon core empowers the demon lord by providing them with concentrated magic from the defeated monsters. Yuki Speculates the dungeon menu manifests in a manner that most makes sense to the Dungeon Master such as a game menu for Yuki or a stone slate for a goblin.
The dungeon has a connection to its Demon Lord, creating a co-existent symbiosis where if the core dies, then the Demon Lord dies (and vice versa).
When Yuki first made contact with the core there was a knowledge transfer, installing a Wikipedia-like database of knowledge about the world.

Being a demon-lord, he can, and does, overpower most of his foes with sheer brute force. He's trying to become Strong and Skilled so that he doesn't get overwhelmed by those who can gob smack him with pure skill.

Before meeting Yuki, Zaien (En) was a cursed axe who began their life in a warzone somewhere. Being wielder by men who went mad because of her curse. It hated the fact that she was a cursed weapon thus cursing her existence. After years of cycling through the killing, slaughter, and massacres, even by the madness of owners that have fallen to her curse, the cursed axe made its way to Yuki's hands. Who, for the first time, fought back the curse and completely resisted it. Giving the cursed weapon solace.
After Yuki returned from his second visit to Alfyro, he rested a little before he reforged the cursed axe. Yuki had learned from using his weapon creation skills to seek simplicity and fell on the goal of forging a weapon with immense weight and sharpness. In the back of his mind, he kept the visual concept of becoming less sinister and more dignified. He reforged the cursed axe by using orichalcum and the ancient hero's sword he found. Thus reforging, and bringing about the rebirth of the cursed axe into its new form as a long, heavy, and sharp, Taichi.
With the new form, the curse was gone and the budding will within was finally free of its control. Thus finding peace for the first time since its creation. Only to burst in happiness when Yuki gave his new weapon the name Zaien.
Becoming his main weapon, Zayn was able to telepathically communicate with Yuki through its will and intentions. Happiness, loneliness, and competitiveness were all emotions that it was able to pass. It was only after a fight against the Manticore that Zaien was able to manifest a more sentient consciousness enough to humanize and begin interacting with the rest of the dungeon.
Following the battle with Dragon Lord Girodio, Yuki augmented Zaien with one of Lefi's fangs. Thus becoming akin to the daughter of both the Demon Lord and Supreme Dragon. En and Leila accompanied Yuki on his visit to the Demon World. En kept women from seducing him. En joined Yuki and Nell on their trip to the capital but stayed in Yuki's item box most of the time to give the couple some alone time.

Personality

Originally, even from before En acquired full sentience, she was somewhat self-aware as a cursed weapon. Back then, she was more of a 'will' than an intelligent. Despite that, she hated herself for being a cursed weapon that controlled other people into doing horrible things. A big indication of her innate kindness despite her cursed origins.
Despite having been a genderless weapon, Yuki had the impression that En had more feminine preferences. Later this was made more clear once she humanizes.
Now, En considers herself Yuki's daughter and main weapon... She's possessive about her title as the latter to challenge and potentially destroy any other sword that could even remotely threaten that position. So much so that whenever Yuki can't use En for whatever reason, he's forced to use some kind of blunt non-sword-like weapon. Her competitiveness stretches to being unable to stand being inferior to the weapons of Yuki's enemies.
An interesting trait about En is that she is a weapon of justice. This comes from both her identity as the daughter of the Demon Lord of Justice and her innate nature that makes her a weapon meant to cut down evil. As seen in her initial description, En despises sin and will ruthlessly cut-down sinners.
